Shuchang Liu, founder of DUYIYAO, is a ceramist based in Jingdezhen, China. Since the beginning of his practice, he has devoted himself to the study of the history and culture of Jingdezhen’s traditional high-temperature colored glaze ceramics and to the research on the city’s original glazed clay. Emotive Soil is a design and craft studio with presence in Jingdezhen, Shanghai and London. The studio is established by Chinese designers Yefeng Lyu and Kai Li, who graduated from the Royal College of Art in London. Their collaborative partnership began when they first started their field research at Jingdezhen.
The aim of their design practice is to understand ‘how people create’ in different contexts – by observing how design is entangled with material, culture, geography, and history. Yefeng and Kai do research around local handicraft in different areas of China and make related objects as a method to document what they see, feel, and think. During the design process, the focus of the studio shifts fluidly between the designer, maker, narrator, etc, allowing them to create from diverse perspectives. The studio covers the areas of product design, furniture design, spatial design and installations.

GATO MIKIO-SHOUTEN was founded by Komakichi Gato in 1908 in the Yamanaka Kaga Onsen area in the Ishikawa Prefecture. The Ishikawa prefecture has a 450-year-long history of lacquerware products and has an ideal environment for its production.
GATO MIKIO-SHOUTEN was originally a woodworking plant with its founder being a highly-skilled woodturner. The second generation of the Gato family started to develop lacquer skills and added them to their portfolio. By the time the third generation took over, the brand was designing high-quality lacquerware in addition to the fine-grain wood products.
Inheriting the policy of the "kijiya" (Japanese woodturners), GATO MIKIO-SHOUTEN's craftsmanship is particular about the perfection of wood grain, which is the basis of lacquerware. In the age of mass production, GATO MIKIO-SHOUTEN still works according to the traditional ways in order to preserve the artwork, craftsmanship, and local culture. The designs, however, have evolved over the generations to keep up with the times and demands. The brand ensures that its crafts are not only authentic but also suitable for contemporary use. Each skillfully crafted wood or lacquer product is an ode to the region it comes from and the traditions that birthed it.
GATO MIKIO-SHOUTEN's Karmi Tea Canisters received the Good Design Award and Prize of Smaller Enterprise Agency's Director, Germany's Design Plus Award, and won a silver medal of the world's most authoritative design award, the Designpreis Deutschland in Germany, among more than 1,500 other candidates. The name "Karmi" refers to one of the most renowned haiku poets, Matsuo Basho's haikai philosophy, "karumi (軽み)." The products express an open-hearted state of mind that we could feel in our everyday lives, without overly elaborating on knowledge and techniques. The products also represent the philosophy of beautiful design that exudes from the inside of the product.

Gerel Gilvaa was founded by Mona and Jenna, two Mongolian entrepreneurs united in their love for nature, crystals, and essential oils. The aim was to create a brand inspired by their homeland that leveraged the healing energy of nature and would inculcate a love for all things natural in people across the globe.
Gerel Gilvaa means “light” in Mongolian. Mona and Jenna wish for Gerel Gilvaa to be a ray of light that heals each body it touches upon, and helps each soul find its own inner light. The products present nature in its most native state through original design and fine craftsmanship. The brand integrates and contrasts the roughness and free form of natural elements with chic and modern textures.
Both functional and abstract, the collection of homewares and decorative vessels plays between drawing and sculpture, featuring textures and patterns applied in intentional dialogues with wheel-thrown pottery. The broad range of motifs, drawing from affinities for minimalist repetition and patterns found in nature, find fresh ambiguity and tactility in their ceramic forms. The studio’s work is direct and spatial, exploring relationships between perception, construction, and tradition.
