Masaki Kondo is a Japanese furniture designer and maker, who started his own workshop in 2009. He first learned the basics of woodworking skills in Takayama, Japan, and later on, he mastered advanced techniques while working for Joseph Walsh furniture studio in Ireland.
Inspired by nature and made by hand-carving and special bending techniques, his creations take on unique forms and structures. Images descending upon him inspire him, and he actualizes them in furniture through carving, utilizing plunks with a natural bend, or through laminating. His chairs are diametrically opposed to the simple chairs at the extreme of functional beauty.
Masaki’s works often appear alive and organic. “My curiosity and experience in nature guide me in my work and my craft”, he explains.
