Nie Jingzhu, Chinese pioneering visual artist and designer, is a graduate of the China Central Academy of Fine Arts. She has worked with the National Centre of Performing Arts, the National Theatre of China, and the Beijing People’s Art Theatre. With her unique concepts of design, she is inspired by symbols from modern theatre aesthetics.
Nie Jingzhu works with some of the most important Chinese theatre productions, such as Rhinoceros In Love, Amber, Soft (by Meng Jinghui), An Enemy of the People and Li Yu (by Lin Zhaohua), KACHIKACHI (by Tadashi Suzuki), 18 Springs (by Edward Lam and Mathias Woo), The Long March (by Tian Qinxin), and You and Me (by Zhang Yimou).
She has worked as a creative director for the Beijing Fringe Festival and Wuzhen Theatre Festival. She is also an excellent graphic designer for film posters, with works including Bodyguards and Assassins (by Peter Chan) and Reign of Assassins (by John Woo).
Nie Jingzhu has exhibited at the Second Contemporary Theatre Biennale (Shenzhen), “Comparisons 2020 le salon ART CAPITAL” in Paris, and Biennale Architettura 2021 How Will We Live Together? in Venice. She has also won several awards for her work, including Young Artist of the Year and Designer of the Year.
