studio KAE is a design consultancy and material research studio based in Shanghai. Two founders Zhekai Zhang and Keren Wang graduated from the Royal College of Art in London in 2018. KAE is the abbreviation for Kaleidoscope, Affair and Explorer.
Their design practice is rooted in adventure – blending the exploration of handicrafts with an experimental making process, taking everyday materials and reinterpreting them with a contemporary flair. Zhekai and Keren are dedicated to bringing new insights into home products with innovative processes and sustainable materials. Through the expression of their emotions, they take a unique approach to each piece of work, and see themselves as neo-explorers more than designers.
