Founded in 2015, PLYWOOD laboratory is a brand created by established plywood manufacturer Takizawa Veneer from Hokkaido, Japan.
PLYWOOD laboratory makes products in Asahikawa – one of the largest furniture production areas in Japan - using Paper Wood, a unique plywood material, developed in 2009. Using advanced woodworking techniques, Paper Wood is created by integrating colorful recycled papers with domestic wood veneers from trees grown in Hokkaido. Because the cross-section of each sheet is checked and re-finished individually to guarantee there are no holes or other defects, the plywood is of very high quality and can be used in cut surfaces as is, creating the most interesting patterns.
Since receiving the Good Design Award and Red Dot Design Award, PLYWOOD laboratory has exhibited at Milan Design Week, Stockholm Furniture Fair, Maison & Objet, with sales at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Paper Wood has also been used in buildings and interiors by renowned designers and architects.
