Mizuhiki (Burn)

The loop series was inspired by works of the master, Isamu Noguchi. His sculptures demonstrate the graphic use of contrast stone colors and the expressions of movement and tension through hard medium.

This decorative accent is made from tubular forms threaded together in ancient Japan's artform of stiff rice paper cord knot-tying - called Mizuhiki - dating from the Asuka period.

Such knots are most commonly used to decorate envelopes, called kinpū, which are given as gifts during holidays, such as Japanese New Year (and are then called otoshidama) or for special occasions such as births and weddings (shūgi-bukuro) or funerals (kōden-bukuro).
