Nozomi Fujii is a ceramic artist who mainly works on designer vases. She grew up in the quiet town of Kuwana, Japan. During her childhood, she was fascinated with the idea of creation and its systematic planning throughout the process, which eventually became the starting point of her career as a ceramic artist.
She studied ceramic art at the Tokoname City Municipal Ceramic Art Laboratory. She has been participating in domestic solo as well as group exhibitions since 2009. In 2020, she was invited to 1000 VASES in Paris.
Nozomi insists on using pottery wheels for her works due to their absolute limitation. This limitation is born from its concentric movement that only allows her to shape clay symmetrically. She is fascinated by the process of creating beautiful shapes within the limitations. She does not use glaze in order to bring out natural colors and original textures from the clay. By doing so, she extracts the primitive sense of ancient times from the clay, and visualizes her pieces in a modern style.
Her works bring a refined sense and tranquility to any space.
