For our very first pop-up exhibition, we took over the Tai Ping showroom and transformed it into an immersive Asian design experience across four thematic zones.

On 23 July 2022, the Tai Ping showroom opened its doors to welcome guests into a world of exquisite Asian craftsmanship and inspired curation. The takeover by Vermillion in collaboration with Hong Kong's most coveted female designers brought viewers through four thematic zones – Modern Heritage (Ann Chan, HERO Design Group), Scents of Tea & Flowers (Laura Cheung Wolf, LALA CURIO), Urban Vibrancy (Elaine Yan Ling Ng, The Fabrick Lab), and Resort Living (Emma Maclean, EM Bespoke) – punctuated with intimate vignettes, providing glimpses into Vermillion and Tai Ping's exquisite portfolios.

Modern Heritage
Curated by Ann Chan (@herodesign.group)

Taking inspiration from iconic Asian forms, materials, and traditions, the high-contrast Modern Heritage zone paid tribute to our regional culture with a contemporary twist. Displaying objects and furniture pieces that provide insights into our history as a region and its craftsmanship, Ann Chan utilized her signature narrative-driven approach to create a space where heritage and modernity collide.

Scents of Teas & Flowers
Curated by Laura Cheung Wolf (@lalacurio)

Bringing the magic and beauty of nature indoors, the Scents of Teas + Flowers zone highlighted the elegance of Asian fabrics, patterns, and motifs. Curating a selection of products from the Vermillion and Tai Ping portfolios that complement her own handmade decorative screens, Laura Cheung Wolf aimed to revive traditional Asian artisanship by creating a space that was both a nod of gratitude and a glimpse into the window of possibilities.

Resort Living
Curated by Emma Maclean (@em_bespoke)

Emma Maclean's design concept worked to engage and awaken all five senses – a thoughtful selection of artworks, scents with transporting qualities, singing objects to bring tranquility, exquisite textures, and delicious tasting samples. All the elements came together in a calm, tranquil setting to mimic a relaxing afternoon by the seaside against the sounds of the waves and the soft texture of sand.

Paying homage to urban cities across Asia, the eclectic Urban Vibrancy zone was characterized by complex, blue and earthy shades paired with a wide range of materials and textures. Featuring a dynamic ensemble of elegant design pieces, the zone showcased an eclectic interplay of colors, forms, and contrasts, as Elaine Yan Ling Ng aimed to instigate conversations about nature, industry, and the deeper meaning of creating a dwelling space in an urban city with a sustainability-forward approach.

We are extremely grateful for the warm reception that we received from all our visitors at the exhibition space and online. The Tai Ping x Vermillion Pop-Up could not have been the roaring success that it was without the support of our gracious host, Tai Ping, the extremely talented curators, and our brilliant brand partners.

"It has been a privilege for our young company to work alongside a valued friend and mentor within the industry, the storied artisanal heritage brand Tai Ping, for our inaugural pop-up. Our collaboration over this 2-week pop-up event has not only helped us showcase the exquisite work of 52 of our brand partners from across 9 Asian markets but also helped to introduce a new generation of retail customers to Tai Ping's brand and flagship showroom location.

Both retail and trade customers had the opportunity to touch and feel our product quality, witness their detailed artisanship, hear each of our creators' and makers' compelling stories, which intrigued them into discovering and exploring more of the rich cultural and creative tapestry living and breathing on their own doorstep. Next time, our clients will know that they will not have to look far for products and works that might be the ideal fit to surprise, delight, and suit specific needs in their daily lifestyles."
