In this body of works, modular pieces of folded origami paper are repeated and interlocked with one another. With the selection of transparent and semi transparent paper of varying colors, the modular parts are joined to form larger scale malleable pieces of relief sculpture that uses the properties of the colored paper to diffuse and reflect light and shadows. The joining of the modular units is a type of weave, where individual parts come together to form some larger and more massive in scale and form.
This is reminiscent of the artist's observations of women's work such as quilting and tapestry, where small parts are fashioned together through care, dedication and time, to create larger functional pieces of work to be used and placed around the house as ornamentation and protection. These forms are encased in colored acrylic frames that are especially selected to complement and highlight the color of the paper sculptures.
