Veronica Lam, the artist and photographer behind VL Visuals, graduated with a degree in statistics but has always been passionate about photography. Interested in a broad spectrum of the arts, she has been working on various creative collaboration projects ranging from artistic direction in fashion photo shoots and graphics in the music industry to charitable art events in notable non-profit organizations.
In 2016, she created a publication project and sell-out photo exhibition titled “A Book About Lives” to share the memorable life stories of the patients and students under Yan Chai Hospital services through her artistic lens. She collaborated with local illustrators to bring to the fore important social and current issues of society. In 2017, she participated in the Affordable Art Fair in both Hong Kong and London featuring works with gold leaf on Japanese handmade paper. Her first solo exhibition “Layered Dimensions”, in 2019, used different subjects from luscious greens and dry deserts to human postures in photography to express the notion that appearance and surface may not reflect the truth within.
Veronica’s photographs have always been diverse in her choice of medium, but she has often taken landscape imagery as a foundation from which she embarked on creating colorful compositions portraying whimsical dreams or mystical, dark atmospheres. With a critical eye for lighting and contextual surroundings, her creative inspiration derives from spirited memories of travels and flaneuring in foreign cultures. In her work, she builds interesting stories by incorporating meaningful subjects, capturing the fleeting ‘moments in time’.
