Lam Duen Shan Ming’s love affair with the art of Canton porcelain began while he was in secondary school and joined one of the last remaining porcelain workshops in Hong Kong as an apprentice. His technical abilities in the craft were nurtured under the guidance and mentorship of Master Tam Chi-Hung who had great influence on his artistic journey. Lam Duen Shan Ming treasures the artistic and heritage value in Canton porcelain art and feels that it would be a shame if this artistic tradition and skills cannot be passed on to future generations.
He aspires to keep the art alive by reflecting on the traditional techniques in his works while injecting innovative and new elements thus transcending Canton porcelain into an art form that is more relevant in today’s world. Lam Duen Shan Ming is currently a resident artist at the Tao Fung Shan Christian Centre in Shatin.
