Tong Xindi is a ceramic artist, who received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, majoring in pottery, printmaking, photography and art + technology. He was an artist-in-residence at the Guldagergaard Ceramics Center in Denmark. In 2019, he founded Xin Wei Ceramic Studio back in his hometown, Hangzhou.
Tong Xindi's creations are visual, abstract, and full of colorful expressionism - glaze over lines, polka dots, and geometric shapes. Inspired by the sancai (three-color glazes) painting style from Tang Dynasty, Xindi developed a unique way to translate the traditional art form into stunning contemporary pieces. He programmed a 3D glaze printer to generate sancai patterns that could be printed onto ceramic tiles. The tiles are eventually pieced together into a painting. Under his 3D printing ceramic CNC machine, the flow and rhythm of the glaze itself becomes a dynamic painting language. His works refines classical elements of Chinese tradition, appeals to surreal ideas, and finds a way of presenting his classical yet avant-garde point of view.
Tohoku Kogei, a leading lacquerware manufacturer based in the Miyagi prefecture established TOUCH CLASSIC, an innovative range of tableware that seeks to broaden the boundaries of traditional lacquerware, in 2012. The brand has its roots in the tamamushi lacquerware techniques established by its parent company and is now known as the “traditional craftwork” of the Miyagi prefecture. The tamamushi lacquerware techniques involve the application of lacquer by hand in such a way that a spectrum of shades comes to the surface and the luster of the silver first coat shines through.
TOUCH CLASSIC produces household glass products that can be touched, tasted, and enjoyed by the users in addition to their decorative qualities, a philosophy adopted from Tohoku Kogei’s brand vision. The brand brings traditional techniques into contemporary designs, producing versatile products that fit into any occasion or space. By offering a modern feel to colors, designs, and other details, traditional craft techniques are transformed into practical and classy everyday items.

Born in Hong Kong and brought up in London, TTS is an artist exploring the emotional depth and contrasts experienced with the arising and ceasing of feelings – “fictionality and trueness”. Drawing from traditional Chinese artistry, there is more than meets the eye with TTS’ pieces, which upon closer examination unveil powerful messaging and meticulous attention to detail.
Inspired by Chinese monochrome glazed porcelain and embossed pattern techniques, TTS integrates ancient aesthetics with contemporary motifs on canvases with simple yet profound colors. Using repetitive layering techniques to build up an array of emotionally driven tactile elements, TTS transforms canvases into contemplative spaces with quiet yet dynamic energy.
By repeating the Chinese Han character 「笑」(smile) to create an original pattern, or the artist’s signature, an upward-downward smiley motif, TTS vividly brings a modern twist to traditional Chinese artistic techniques guiding viewers to reflect on the importance and significance of the emotion of happiness in life despite its frequent fluctuations.

wohabeing is a design brand launched in September 2017 at Maison & Objet Paris by WOHA, the Singapore-based architectural practice founded by Wong Mun Summ and Richard Hassell.
While wohabeing is a young brand, WOHA have been designing interior objects for over 20 years, in the context of their architectural projects. Some pieces from their collections evolved from WOHA projects such as the acclaimed Alila Villas Uluwatu in Bali, Indonesia. The Oli, Sampan, Diaspora and Corak Collections feature new designs fully developed under wohabeing.
wohabeing works with collaborators with excellent social and environmental sustainability credentials and superb craftsmanship, such as Wewood of Portugal on the Ulu Indoor and Bintan Collections (furniture, lighting), WonderGlass of London on the Oli Collection (lighting), and fellow Singaporean partners Industry+ on the Ulu Outdoor Collection (outdoor furniture), Luzerne on the Diaspora Collection (tableware), apaiser on the Sampan Collection (bathware) and The Rug Maker on the Corak Collection (rugs).
wohabeing searches for a precarious balance – a perfect combination of the imperfect, a tension in the line of beauty. For them, this knife-edge – this tightrope act – is where elegance lies.
