Talking Textiles: The View from the Outside
July 6, 2022
Each one a layered collage of inspired narratives, Deborah McKellar’s work is a tribute to the city of Singapore and ...
The photograph used in this artwork was taken from the Padang, an open playing field which was gazetted as a national monument in 2019.
The skyline scene in this canvas print juxtaposes the old and the new. Historical buildings like The Old Supreme Court to the right of the artwork have been dwarfed by shiny new skyscrapers. From low shophouses to bedazzling skyscrapers, Singapore's cityscape has been constantly evolving over the past 50 years.
Traditional Chinese wave motifs have been added to the foreground to reflect on Singapore's history as a River City.
This canvas print is a digital reproduction of an original artwork by Deborah McKellar.
