The Chinese name for this incense burner or incense holder is qi (契, pronounced chee), which has a dual meaning. It means to complement and bond, reflecting the relationship of harmony between the solid bronze base and concrete upper. It also refers to a turning point, like the way the bronze ball can be encased between the two parts when not in use, and then turned to face the top when in use. Ashes from the lit incense will drop through the slit of the concrete for easy collection in the base. A small, subtle design with a substantial presence.

Handmade items and natural materials always have some degree of variances in appearance, which are not considered defects or flaws, but make these items more special and one-of-a-kind.
All concrete products are individually hand-made, each one will be different. Characteristics such as air bubbles, slight unevenness, minor scratches or bumps were all incurred in the production process and are unavoidable due to the nature of concrete. These are not considered defects unless they affect the functioning of the product.
