Each of Louise's ‘Little Chinese Windows’ depicts a curated vignette of objects arranged as a still life image with image details layered over the top.
The image is not entirely Chinese but an image of a ‘Late Straits’ style Singaporean shophouse from a famous street called Koon Seng Road where Louise Hill used to live - in the shophouse opposite this one! Sitting at the bottom of the house is a Chinese plate and mini ginger jar from the ‘Famille Rose’ series alongside a Singaporean Peranakan heritage ‘tinkat’ or tiffin for carrying food. Also depicted is a Pheonix from a Peranakan house tile photographed embedded in the floor of an old shop she explored on one of her walks. She has also added two Chinese hand-painted lanterns at the top of the image to frame the design, sitting amongst some pretty white blossoms. This print really should be called a ‘Little Chinese Singaporean Window’!
