Liang Mu brings together designers and artists from a variety of cultural backgrounds, such as China, Spain, and Japan, among others. With their own cultures as a starting point, each of their designers draws expertise and inspirations from their respective handicraft, history, and cultural heritage. Incorporating their knowledge and studies of materials such as ceramics, glass, stone, and textile into modern designs, they bring to our present-day world everyday objects that embody culture, modern design, and contemporary craftsmanship.
The name Liang Mu is composed of two Chinese characters: liang (椋) and mu (木). Liang has multiple meanings for the brand: it comes from the bird starling, which is a mighty little bird often found in Yanliang district in Xian, where the founder of the brand was born; it also refers to dogwood tree, which is a type of tree commonly grown in Beijing, where the Liang Mu team was founded. Finally, liang also means tree, a symbol of sturdiness and trust.
